Art - vinyl

Planning stage
Project/Activity: “Art-vinyl” (C/A/S)
Date: February 2011
Goals: To organize a unique exhibition of vinyl covers as of artworks, to construct a picture of the origins of the modern music, to present students  the information in clear manner about the most popular rock bands of the last century.
Personal Challenge: To find, process and learn all the information about popular bands of the last century (plus knew knowledge), to act as a guide of this exhibition (new role), to develop my oratory.
Learning Outcomes: Interesting facts about vinyl covers and music, feedback, oratory, overcoming the fear of appearances.

  1. Is this activity a new role for me? Yes, definitely new. I’ve never been acting as a guide in an exhibition.
  2. Is it a real task that I am going to undertake? It is a real task, which will be very interesting, I think; I’ll learn many new things, which I want to know.
  3. Does it have real consequences for other people and for me? Sure, it will be an entertaining and informative project aimed at expanding students' horizons.
  4. What do I hope to learn from getting involved? Firstly, new information about rock bands of the last century like The Beatles, Pink Floyd and etc, whose music I love, then new skills like communication with different groups of students, acting as a guide, design skills.
  5. How can this activity benefit other people? Expanding horizons again, new information, new music, new images.
  6. What can I reflect on during this activity? I can understand the nature of music flows and types of that time, how they interact with each other, how changed. Also I may understand the vinyl cover destination and propose of its creation and image represented.

Reflection
  1. What did I/we do and where did I/we do it? We made an exhibition of vinyl’s covers in one of the lyceum rooms.
  2. What did I/we hope to learn? I wanted to learn new information about my favorite groups, wanted to learn from the inside, how such exhibitions are held.
  3. How successful have I/we been? I think I was quite successful, cause a curator, estimating the depth and the extent of my knowledge of the subject, allowed me to narrate students about histories of different groups, about histories of cover’s creation.
  4. What difficulties were encountered and how did I/we overcome them? At the beginning I was making some mistakes in facts, but I tried to do my best and read more information about these groups. Also firstly it was very difficult to tell the information to the large audience, but then I got used and everything was ok.
  5. What did I learn about myself? What did I learn about other people? I understand this theme is very interesting for me and probably in future I’ll study Modern art.
  6. What abilities, attitudes and values have I developed? I became more confident in speaking to audience, also I improved my oratory. As for attitudes, I’ve always respected the work of The Beatles, but after the exhibition I got interested in it more and now it is one of my favorite groups.
  7. Did anyone help me? Whom have I interacted with? At the stage of planning there were three girls and one of them – me, Aleksey Ivanovich was a curator. But then at the stage of performance nobody helped me, escape Alexey Ivanovich.
  8. How did this activity benefit other people or institutions? I think, it expanded the horizons of Lyceum students, also the got new information, learn something about new music and new images.
  9. What would I change if I were to do this again? I don’t want to change anything, cause I enjoyed what we got, I am glad that I took part in this exhibition.
  10. How can I apply what I have learned to other situations? Now I am holding with more confidence in public.
