Social advertisement

Planning stage
Project/Activity: Social advertisement (C/A)
Date: November – 17th December 2010
Goals: To attract people’s attention to the most wide spread global problems (alcoholism, smoking, killing animals, ecological problems, drug addiction) to change their mind, using a new creative format of advertisement (live ads).
Personal Challenge: To experience myself in new roles, to try to do something extremely new, to work in a large group, to develop personal skills, to plan correctly all the activities.
Learning Outcomes: Experience in similar events, working in a team, new knowledge.


  1. Is this activity a new role for me? Definitely yes, cause I’ve never participated in such events, I’ve never been acting as a live manikin. Also this project is the first one, our class organizes together, we are going to work in a quite big group, so it is also a little bit challenge for me to achieve harmony in work with each one.
  2. Is it a real task that I am going to undertake? Yes, this is a real task, but I will be successful in it, if I do my best.
  3. Does it have real consequences for other people and for me? For me – not sure, probably something in my mind will change, I don’t know now yet, but as an experience I’ll have got-sure. For other people- if everything will be ok, our social advertisement will have a great effect, we hope people will think more about these global problems and maybe even do something really useful in feature.
  4. What do I hope to learn from getting involved? Adequate assessment of situations, vision of work, self overcoming, work in group, developing new skills, achieving all the aims.
  5. How can this activity benefit other people? We are going to show our “advertisement ” to Lyceum students, cause we think such exhibitions (about global problems) should be shown to teenagers at the age of 16th, when they are ready to perceive information and not deny it, adults are often reluctant to accept what they say.
  6. What can I reflect on during this activity? Surely I’ll think more about global problems, which we want to reflect in our project, also I want to find some real opportunities to change the situation of the global problems, probably they will be simple and not so effective as WWF’s projects, but still.

Reflection
  1. What did I/we do and where did I/we do it? We organized an exhibition, called “Social advertisement” in the Assembly Hall. This exhibition included several parts: maze, movie and reflection. Personally I participated in construction of the maze (our group was developing a design of the maze, also we created a wall made of newspapers), then I took a part as a live manikin, wearing a fur coat (killing animals).
  2. What did I/we hope to learn? We wanted to learn how to work in a large group; wanted to know peoples attitude to global problems and to such events; wanted to know more ourselves about problems and the measures, which Government undertakes; wanted to develop new skills, to learn being perseverance.
  3. How successful have I/we been? Everything was much better, than we thought. Lyceum students were amazed and left honorable mentions about the exhibition. Sure we were able to do better, there is always an ideal, which we should stride to.
  4. What difficulties were encountered and how did I/we overcome them? There were many misunderstandings and disagreements, cause everyone had his own point of view and vision of a situation, but we always came to a compromise.
  5. What did I learn about myself? What did I learn about other people? I found my strength and weaknesses, weaknesses I am going to develop in future projects, strengths will be a base of my growth. Also this I knew about my classmates: somebody needs help in different tasks, somebody – guidance. We all are different and it is quite hard to make a unity, but together we are moving in the right direction.
  6. What abilities, attitudes and values have I developed? I developed such skills as manifestation of persistence, working in group, ability to adapt to the changing situation; I took an active part in a theme of killing animals, since the project my mind have absolutely changed: now I don’t eat a meal and I’m sure I won’t were a fur coat in future, and for me all lives are valuable, including animal lives.
  7. Did anyone help me? Whom have I interacted with? We work together, everyone helped each other, it was the collaborative common project.
  8. How did this activity benefit other people or institutions? How can social advertisement be beneficial for other people? It just provides the information. It may be beneficial indirectly, for example, somebody stopped smoking, somebody – drinking.
  9. What would I change if I were to do this again? I don’t want to change anything actually, everything was as it was, and even a little correction may turn the situation in another way.
  10. How can I apply what I have learned to other situations? An experience I’ve got, new skills, some of new attitudes and values surely will help me in future.
